Privacy Policy
Effective date: February 14, 2026
TL;DR: Voice Decoder processes everything locally on your Mac. We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your voice data or transcriptions. Period.
1. Overview
Voice Decoder ("the App") is a native macOS application for real-time voice-to-text transcription. This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles your data.
2. Data We Collect
We do not collect any personal data. The App:
- Does not record, store, or transmit your audio
- Does not store or transmit your transcriptions
- Does not include analytics, tracking, or telemetry
- Does not make any network requests
3. Local Processing
All speech recognition is performed entirely on your Mac using the whisper.cpp engine. Audio from your microphone is processed in real-time in memory and is never written to disk or sent over the network.
4. Permissions
The App requires the following macOS permissions:
- Microphone — to capture your voice for real-time transcription
- Accessibility — to insert transcribed text at your cursor position and register global hotkeys
These permissions are used solely for the App's core functionality. No data obtained through these permissions is collected or shared.
5. Data Storage
The App stores only its settings and downloaded AI models locally in ~/Library/Application Support/VoiceDecoder/. No user-generated content (audio, transcriptions) is stored.
6. Third-Party Services
Voice Decoder does not use any third-party services, SDKs, or APIs. The App works 100% offline.
